A PECKISH shoplifter who was caught with 11 blocks of cheese has been banned from a number of shops in Hyndburn.
John Riley, was already wanted in connection with 15 offences committed in and around the town centres of Accrington, Rishton and Clayton-le-Moors and totalling £900, was arrested by police in possessing of the cheese on December 11.
Riley, 31, of Canal Street, Church, pleaded guilty to a number of charges of theft.
Yesterday, magistrates jailed him for 38 weeks and imposed two and a half-year criminal behaviour order, which bans him from several stores in Hyndburn.
Sgt Ian Corbett, of the Hyndburn neighbourhood police, said “This has been a long and protracted inquiry and I am satisfied with the outcome.
"Hyndburn Neighbourhood Policing Team officers have worked tirelessly to get this result and are now focusing on other like-minded individuals, the criminal behaviour order will curtail Riley's offending in the future."
