MEET the 100-year-old woman whose centenary singing celebrations have been viewed more than one million times.

Letitia 'Letty' Lancaster was able to belt out a tune or two on her centenary celebration surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Grandson Andy Lancaster and his wife Vicky, from Blackburn, filmed Mrs Lancaster singing her heart out at her nursing home in Galloway, Scotland.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Born in South Shields, Mrs Lancaster, nee Bruce, is one of eight siblings and was taught how to sing and dance at a young age by her mother, who was one of the original Tiller Girls.

Coming from a family of performers, Letty became a professional tap dancer and singer in her 20s and taught youngsters how to dance and sing.

After marrying George Lancaster in 1947, they lived in Staffordshire before moving to Lancashire and became involved in Blackpool’s variety performances and played at the Blackpool Opera House.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Vicky, 38, who lives with her husband in Shadsworth, said the video of her grandmother-in-law, who worked in a munitions factory during the Second World War, has gone viral and been viewed more than one million times online.

She said: “I wanted to let everyone know how talented Letty still is.

“She’s got an amazing voice and she loves singing and performing to this day. Everyone whipped their phones out to capture her singing.

“She’s in great health and it's amazing how she’s still able to perform like that at her age.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

While living in Blackpool Letty, who has one child, seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, performed both as a soloist and with her sisters. She had auditions alongside songwriter and actress  Dame Vera Lynn.

Letty was part of the Letty Bruce and Baz show in Blackpool during the 1970s and performed at Blackpool Tower on several occasions, as well as the Grand Theatre.

She performed on the Des O’Connor Tonight show in the 1980s alongside her husband George before the couple moved to Galloway in 1989.

For reaching the landmark birthday, Letty received a telegram from Scottish Secretary Alister Jack.

Vicky said: “Her favourite musician is Andre Rieu and she loves the Viennese waltz.”

Mr Lancaster died in 2010 and Letty moved into a care home a couple of years ago, where she continues to sing regularly to the other residents.
