Nails and tacks found scattered at the junction of a busy main road are becoming a daily occurrence and a nuisance to road users, say police.

Over the last five weeks, officers in the Ribble Valley have received several calls from concerned motorists after nails and tacks have been placed on Mitton Road in Whalley.

The items, which could puncture tyres and result in accidents were strewn across the carriageway close to Abbey Farm View.

On Friday, a spokesperson for the police posted on social media: "During our extra patrols this morning on Mitton Road in Whalley we have again found a number of nails and tacks on the road.

"Some of you may have seen our previous post about this, please can anyone with any information contact us as this is becoming a daily occurrence which is affecting all road users using this route.

"We are keen to identify the culprit."

A number of social media users have now expressed concerns after reporting that their tyres have been punctured by the nails.

One user posted: "On my MOT, three nails and screws were found in my tyres.

"I'm sick to death of it and sick to death of all the dangerous traffic.

"Something needs to be done before there is a serious accident.

"Its disgraceful. It has been reported to the police over and over again."

Anyone with any information should contact the police on 101 quoting log number 0916 of January 20 or email 2704@lancashire.pnn.police.uk.
