A BANNED driver gave false details when the VW Golf he was driving was stopped by police.

Bolton magistrates heard how the car came to the attention of officers on October 4 last year as it had no insurance.

But Adam Mala, who was driving, gave a false name, age and address.

“It would seem that the vehicle belonged to a friend and he had borrowed it, said Nicola Yeadon, prosecuting.

But the person whose name he used contacted police and his correct details were obtained.

The court heard that Mala, 29, of Gibraltar Street, Bolton, had previously been banned for drink-driving.

Mala pleaded guilty to driving while banned, having no insurance and obstructing police.

“On the evening he had been socialising with friends and made the very poor decision to drive to a shop to get more food and drink,” said senior probation officer Mandy Bailey.

He was sentenced to a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work and was banned from driving for a further three months. He was ordered to participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities and pay £175 in costs and charges.
