Smithills Hall History Tour

Explore Smithills Hall on Thursday and take a guided tour of this historic building. On the tour learn about the history of the building which dates back to the 14th century and how the hall became open to the public in 1963.

The tour , run by the Friends of Smithills Hall, starts at 11am on Thursday, January 23 and it will last an hour. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £4 concessions.

The hall boasts both Tudor and Victorian wings, in addition to the medieval hall itself , and a private chapel.

Visitors must book in advance, and payments can be made by cash or card at Smithills Hall or call 01204 332377.

There is also a thriving tea room attached to the hall for you to relax in after your tour.

The hall is one of the oldest and best preserved manor houses in the North West of England.

Comedy sketch writing

Explore your funny side today and get involved in Comedy Sketch Writing. The session will begin at 10.30am at the Bolton University Queens campus in Farnworth.

If you have an interest in Science and how stuff is made head down to the Bolton Central Library on Saturday.

The library is hosting a sublime science experience which they have guaranteed will wow visitors. Customers can experience how slime is made as well as watch fizzy potions and magic tricks. Admission is free the event starts at 11am. Details from www.bolton.gov.uk

Elvis fundraiser

To raise money for Bolton Hospice, local Elvis tribute act Tommy Holland will be performing at the Astley Bridge Conservative Club on Friday January 24.

He will be supported by up-and -coming singer Aaron Smith.

It will be a homecoming date for Tommy who in 2017 was voted the best Elvis impersonator in the country.

Tickets cost £5 per person, and the concert will begin at 7.30pm with ticket sales going towards Bolton Hospice.

Symphonic treat

On Saturday Bolton Symphony Orchestra will be returning to the spledid surroundings of Bolton’s Vicoria Hall fopr a special film-themed evening.

Heroes and Villains will feature some very well-known symphonic pieces which have been part of major Hollywood blockbusters.
