VANDALS have smashed up a football club's press box.

Staff at Clitheroe FC were left to pick up the pieces this morning after vandals had climbed into the club during the night and damaged the press area.

Glass panels had been smashed, leaving thousands of shards on the floor and across wooden seats.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The Northern Premier League Division One North West side have reported the incident to the police.

Andrew Jackson, the club's financial director said: "This is obviously very disappointing for everyone at the club.

"Staff came in this morning to prepare the pitch for Tuesday's match and saw mud on the entrance gates, so someone has climbed in or out that way.

"Nothing has been stolen so the only reason for this we can think of is mindless vandalism.

"The club is the heart of the community and we need to pick ourselves up from this.

"I'm not sure how much this will cost until we get someone in to repair it."

Mr Jackson said none of the club's upcoming matches will be postponed as a result of what happened last night.

The club released a statement on Twitter, which read: "2020 starts with us being the victim of vandals.

"Press box has been smashed up and few other parts of the ground. Waiting on full details.

"Police have been called and are now involved."

Lancashire Telegraph:

The Blues are sixth in the division on 34 points and play Tadcaster Albion on Tuesday.

Mr Jackson said: "If anyone has any information they should call the police or get in touch."
