A MAN was left with serious injuries to his head and body after an attack on New Year's Day.

Emergency services were called to Barnes Street in Church following a report of a fight.

Police found a man, thought to be in his 20s, with serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 11.20pm on Wednesday to a report of public disorder in Church.

“It was reported that a man in his 20s had been attacked with weapons at an address on Barnes Street.

“He was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head, back, arms and torso. He remains there in a serious but stable condition.

“Nobody has been arrested at this stage but our enquiries are on-going to find whoever is responsible.”

Officers were seen in and around the area on Wednesday evening and into Thursday afternoon.

One resident said: “I have been told a man has been stabbed.

"It’s a pretty shocking thing to have happened so close to where I live.

“Forensic officers have been here all day.”

Another added: “I hope he is not too seriously injured, it’s unnerving to see.”
