A CONVICTED rapist has appeared in court after failing to tell police where he was living.

Philip Ngugi Murphy, 49, was placed on the sex offenders’ register following a conviction for rape in 2000.

He was made subject to strict notification rules requiring him to tell police where he is living and within a time period of moving to a new address.

At Bolton Crown Court, Juliet Berry, prosecuting, said that although Murphy, of Tomlin Square, Bolton, had no offending history since his release, he had breached the notification requirements of the sex offenders’ register on seven previous occasions.

Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Martin Walsh, handed Murphy an 18-month sentence with a 25 day rehabilitation requirement suspended for two years.
