EIGHTEEN East Lancashire businesses have written an open letter to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn calling on the party to abandon its 'reckless spending programme'.

They include Darwen's WEC Group Ltd and Rossendale's JJO plc.

The letter says: "We are extremely concerned about the impact of Labour’s Brexit policy and reckless spending programme on local jobs, services and investment.

"We are united in our opposition to any continuing uncertainty over Brexit. We are calling upon Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party to end their dithering.

"Labour’s reckless spending spree includes plans to introduce a foolhardy four-day week. The damage isn’t difficult to imagine."

Rossendale and Darwen Conservative candidate and Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry said: "They are absolutely right."

Blackburn Labour candidate and Mr Corbyn's political aide Kate Hollern said: "Our policies are fully costed and will great economic benefits. Our Brexit position is clear."
