POPPY Easterlow was presented with the head teacher’s award at St Patrick’s CE School for showing a caring attitude to others. 'Star of the week' certificates were presented to Kara Ashworth for a super effort in maths, Emily Jaundrell for using correct punctuation, and Daniel Gardner for enthusiastic contributions in class discussions.

MACMILLAN Cancer Support was gifted £115 collected at the carol singing event around the Christmas tree.  Despite the inclement weather a good crowd assembled to join in with the Community Choir and Burneside Brass Band.

PRESIDENT Jean Fry welcomed members to the Christmas celebration of the WI. The Memorial Hall had been decorated by the committee and looked very festive. The secretary, Betty Pickett, read the report of the last meeting. A card was received from Boxes of Hope thanking members for the boxes and the beautiful knitted blankets which are now on their way to Romania.  A glass of sherry was enjoyed by all along with the sumptuous Jacob's join supper.  Afterwards, games of dominoes were played with much humour, and not a little confusion, but mostly merriment.  The 'secret Santa' meant that all went home with a first gift to put under the tree.

A CAROLS and readings service will be held at St Patrick's Church on December 15 at 9.30am, and a family crib service will be held there on December 24 at 4pm. All are welcome to attend.
