A large number of tyres were set on fire at a tyre repair centre overnight, causing thick black smoke to billow through the air.

Fire crews tackled the blaze at Ri Tyres on Whalley Banks in Blackburn for about two hours, after receiving the initial call at 2.40am on Tuesday.

A fire service spokesperson said: "It looks like someone has set the front of the building on fire which has resulted in a pile of tyres being set alight too.

"There was a lot of thick black smoke in the area and there's some damage to the front of the building.

"The owners were in attendance and the fire is now being treated as suspicious."
