SUPPORTERS of a bid to regenerate an East Lancashire town centre have taken inspiration from one of the north's foodie capitals.

Bespoke traders have helped put Altrincham Market on the map in recent years, with nearby Urmston following in its footsteps.

Members of Bacup Pride visited the Trafford towns, looking for ideas to revive their own patch.

The Bacup 2040 Vision is looking to provide a major boost for the town, centring on a new market square, new apartments at the old Regal Cinema and a restored Coronation Fountain.

Council economic development chiefs were on the fact-finding mission, which follows on from Bacup's successful £2.1million townscape heritage scheme.

Simon Dalley, Bacup Vision chairman, said: "Small things make a huge difference, like music in the market – it gives it energy and makes it welcoming. What is important now is getting everyone from the community involved in driving our regeneration ."
