TEACHING is not just a career for the winner of Secondary Teacher of the Year — it’s a passion.

Tansy Shaw was put forward for the award for “going above and beyond to make the pupils feel cared for and safer” and inspiring them to be their best.

Mrs Shaw works at Rumworth School and was put forward for the award by a parent, who said: “This teacher stands out from the crowd and have given my child so much confidence to be who she wants to be.

“This teacher explains things properly to my daughter and helps her the way she needs help.”

Mrs Shaw said: “ I feel thankful and uplifted by the recognition and appreciation that I have received not only from winning this award but from hearing the kind words written about me.

“Teaching at Rumworth School is not just my career but it is also my passion. Like so many teachers at Rumworth School, I thrive on seeing the steps of progress made both socially and academically by our inspiring young people.” She added: “Rumworth School has a phenomenal support network which promotes a positive atmosphere for both staff and students and I feel very blessed to be part of the Rumworth community.”

The award was presented by Cllr Christine Wild, Bolton Council’ cabinet member for children’s services.

She said: “I am thrilled to be her acknowledging the hard work and dedication of excellent teachers.”
