YOUNG people whose lives this year’s Secondary Headteacher of the Year is helping to transform were among those cheering on Ann Webster at this The Bolton News School Awards.
Ms Webster is the head of Sharples School.
And she was accompanied by pupils and staff from her school who were beyond proud of her achievement.
Described as a very hands-on headteacher, she not only leads the school but also continues to teach — which undoubtedly keeps in her in touch with all aspects of the school.
Not only have the school results improved year-on-year during her tenure leading to the school have a well above average progress 8 score — which measures how far young people come during their time at secondary school —putting Sharples in to the top 15 per cent of schools nationally.
And the headteacher also ensures that alongside academic success, young people enjoy a wide range of enrichment activities so pupils “leave with lifelong memories and rounded individuals”.
Ms Webster said: “I am extremely proud to be named as the Bolton News’ Secondary Headteacher of the Year for 2019.”
She added: “However, I would like to dedicate the award to all the staff and students of Sharples School who contribute to making our school such a vibrant and successful learning community.”
