Footie was substituted for food as former Liverpool player Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock brought his culinary skills to an East Lancashire fine dining restaurant.

The former footballing star was man of the match as he cooked up a set-piece menu in the kitchen of the Michelin starred, Northcote.

Ruddock, who wowed Lisa Goodwin-Allen when he cooked for the Chef’s Table in the final week of Celebrity Masterchef, joined forces with the executive chef for one night of food, fun and a little bit of football.

They twosome cooked side by side to produce a stunning four-course menu supported by the Northcote brigade.

Managing director of Northcote, Craig Bancroft said: “Lisa met Razor on Celebrity Masterchef and we had an incredible opportunity to raise funds for DEBRA, a charity close to our hearts.

“During the evening Lisa enjoyed putting him through his paces in the kitchen as he worked alongside the brigade of keen football fans.

“We were delighted to welcome this legend to Northcote for what was a fantastic and fun evening which also benefitted a good cause.”

The jovial kitchen atmosphere on the night spilled over into the private dining rooms and chef’s table as Razor introduced his dishes with his trademark humour.

Guests chatted to Ruddock as Mr Bancroft hosted the after-dinner Q&A session.

There was even an impromptu rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone performed by all of the dining guests for Ruddock and Lisa.

The evening was held as a fundraising event to raise money for one of Northcote’s dedicated charities, DEBRA, which supports people affected by EB (epidermolysis bullosa), a group of genetic skin conditions that cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.

In total around £2,000 was raised from the event.

The menu on the night consisted of a sticky beef meatball to start; North Sea cod and mussel chowder for the second course; herb butter chicken with wild mushroom bourguignon for main; and orchard apple pie for dessert.
