100 YEARS AGO - 1919
THE parishioners of Carnforth have had a meeting called to consider the untoward position in which the Vicar is placed by the long rise in prices and the stationary state of his stipend. It has been declared without any mincing of the matter, that the only means of betterment must be found in the voluntary help of the congregation. The parson and his family have to live - somehow.
50 YEARS AGO - 1969
A PROPOSAL to build an artificial ski slope with clubhouse, car park and children's playground in the Kendal area was given support at a meeting. It was estimated the whole project would cost in the region of £20,000.
25 YEARS AGO - 1994
HEALTH chiefs have re-stated an urgent call for fluoridation of domestic water in a bid to control tooth decay. Morecambe Bay Health Authority says North West Water has ignored requests to add fluoride to water supplies in deprived areas. Members also ask for the dental examination charges to be stopped to encourage regular check-ups.
