BLACKBURN Cathedral will be bathed in a red glow on Wednesday evening in support of persecuted Christians and other faith groups.

The Ribble Valley’s Stonyhurst College will also be lit with the colour as part of a national event.

Across the UK, 120 buildings including 13 cathedrals, are taking part in #RedWednesday. to Westminster Cathedral for a special service focusing on persecuted Christians in countries such as Iraq, Pakistan, and Nigeria.

Patricia Hatton, head of marketing at ACN (UK), said the nationwide event showed solidarity to persecuted Christians – the world’s ‘most widely targeted’ faith group according to Pew Research Centre.

She said: “This is a real chance for Christians to stand together and in a very visible way, show that the lives of Christians and other persecuted minorities matter.

London’s Foreign Office, Lambeth Palace and Southwark Cathedral will also be lit red.
