A SHELTERED accommodation resident admitted throwing a phone at one of his care workers, hitting her on the arm.

Burt Blackburn magistrates heard Michael Burke denied picking the phone up and deliberately throwing it at the stomach of the worker who was seven months pregnant.

Michael Burke, 24, of Whalley Road, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Emma Morris. The case was adjourned for a hearing to establish the facts.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the defendant had thrown the phone at Miss Morris hitting her on the arm.

"The prosecution case is that he then picked it up and deliberately threw it at her," said Miss Allan.

"The victim was seven months pregnant at the time and had to go to hospital for a check-up."

Damien Pickup, defending, said his client pleaded guilty to assault on the basis that he had thrown the phone and it hit Miss Morris on the arm.

"He is adamant that when he threw it the second time it hit a chair," said Mr Pickup. "He denies the second part of the incident ever happened."
