TALENT from a music school shone through over the weekend as seven acts entertained the masses at a town’s Christmas lights switch-on.

Singers as young as eight, from the Darwen School of Music, wowed large crowds in the town square as they took to the stage as part of the annual event.

Paul Stuart, vocal coach at the school, said: “We kicked off the event with a 30-minute band showcase featuring vocalists Maia, Tillie and Harriet - guitarists Joe, Oliver, Ethan, Sam, Harvey, Alannah, Michaela, Heidi - keyboard player Scott and drummers Chelsea, Soloman and Joey.

“The event allowed us to continue to provide fantastic opportunities for our students. Live performance is such an important part of development as a musician or singer.

“ Thanks to Darwen Town Centre and UK Media & Events for asking us to be a part of it.

“We didn’t take a penny as it was all about providing an invaluable experience for our students.”

The event accumulated with an appearance from chart-topping sensation Simon Webbe, from boyband Blue.
