OVER the past few days many areas of the country have experienced the power of nature with floods, gales and even the threat of snow.

This photograph from the archives shows the aftermath of overnight gales in Pendle in 1990.

High winds ripped the felt off the roof at End Edge High School, Nelson, scattering debris all over the playground and the car park.

Staff arrived in the morning to find one car which had been parked overnight shrouded in roofing felt. Fortunately no-one was injured but the damage to the school building led to the school being closed for emergency repairs.
