BOSSES at a bed manufacturer reveal the secrets of their eco success in a TV show being screened tonight - ITV4's Made in Britain.

TV cameras go behind the scenes to reveal how Barnoldswick-based Silentnight's environmentally-friendly Eco Comfort Breathe mattresses are made using recycled plastic bottles.

Silentnight say since launching their new range, they have prevented 110 million plastic bottles from entering the world's oceans and landfill.

The Carbon Neutral company say customers are snapping up the beds and are literally saving the planet in their sleep.

Operations director at Silentnight, Rob Livingstone, said: “Sustainability has been ingrained within the business for a long time and we continue to do our bit to help change how the world deals with waste.

“The Eco Comfort Breathe mattress launched as part of our ambitious drive to contribute towards a greener planet.

"Inspired with a fresh, comfy and clean night’s sleep in mind, the mattress is made from Eco Comfort fibres which are made using recycled plastic bottles.

“We also recycle 100 per cent of our manufacturing waste, plus 100 per cent of general waste is recycled and the company is a ‘zero to landfill’ business.

“We are truly committed to working hard to produce innovative products to help save the planet.”

Each mattress uses Eco Comfort fibres™, manufactured from up to 850 recycled plastic bottles.

Earlier this year, the company announced a new partnership with the UK’s leading marine charity, Marine Conservation Society, pledging financial support for its work to ensure seas are healthy, pollution-free and protected.

The ITV4 show narrated by actor and comedian Ricky Tomlinson, is a tribute to the army of makers, inventors and innovators that make Great Britain, a manufacturing powerhouse.

The award-winning show, Made in Britain, is a celebration of British manufacturing, from the mass produced to the hand crafted.

Made in Britain is on ITV4 at 8pm tonight.
