A new driver who swerved to avoid a pheasant ended up crashing his car into a field roof-down.

Lancashire Road Police tweeted out photos of the car, which was wrecked by the impact of the crash.

Photos show a smashed windscreen, broken lights and a heavily dented body.

The incident happened earlier today on Park Lane in Winmarleigh at around 3.30pm.

Four young people in the car received minor injuries. All four were wearing their seatbelts.

Lancashire Road Police tweeted: "New-ish driver swerves to avoid a cheeky pheasant, loses control and end up in a field on its roof!

"All had seatbelts on which I think saved any injuries."
