A thief posing as a police officer has stolen bank cards from two pensioners.

In the last week, officers in Burnley received two calls from elderly residents in the Rosegrove and Coal Clough Lane areas, informing them they'd had their bank cards stolen.

Information given to the officers stated that a man had called at their addresses claiming to be a police office before making off with their bank cards.

One of the victims was in their 70s and the other in their 80s.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Please do not allow anyone into your property if you aren’t satisfied with their identity.

"A genuine police officer will be happy to provide the correct identification.

"If you have elderly neighbours or relatives please pass this message on and be extra vigilant.

"We are currently conducting enquiries to identify this male."

Anyone with any information should contact the police on 101, or, if an immediate sighting is made or an incident like this occurs at your address call 999.
