A WORRIED mum is appealing for people to come forward after her son was injured in a 'hit-and-run' crash.

A 16-year-old boy from Deane has been left in hospital with a broken arm and head injuries after he was hit by a car, according to his devastated mother.

The mum-of-three, Andrea Hollman, says her son was with a friend walking through Breightmet around the junction of Deepdale Road and Crossdale Road when he was struck by a car.

The car fled the scene, said Ms Hollman, and the teenager was left in the road, badly hurt. Ambulances and police arrived at junction and the young man was taken to Salford Royal hospital.

Ms Hollman was terrified when she got the call that her son was being rushed to hospital.

She said: "It's the most frightening thing in the world to find out that your son has been ran over. The police rang me and said he was going to hospital. It was heartbreaking. I didn't know what I was going to walk in to."

The mum described the upsetting scene once she reached the hospital.

"He was found in a puddle so all of his clothes were wet. He is still in a lot of pain."

The 16-year-old had urgent surgery on his broken arm, also being left with damage to his eye and leg, now walking with crutches.

"As a family, it has had a big impact, I have three other children. My son is still in the hospital. He had just started a new apprenticeship and he'll have to be off now for a while. It's really tough."

Ms Hollman is now appealing for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious to come forward, especially if they might have dash camera footage of the area. She believes the car was heading in the direction of Bury Road when the driver left.

She said: "There will have been a lot of people in the area coming home from the Leverhulme Park firework show.

"However small even if you didn't think it is relevant information, it could be someone pulling out of a road, it might help us find who is responsible."

A spokesperson from North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.06pm to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. We treated one male patient in his teenage years for head and arm injuries. A rapid response vehicle and ambulance were sent to the scene. Police also attended."

Greater Manchester Police say they were called to the scene shortly after, at around 9.15pm.
