A LARGE cloud of smoke is visible in western parts of Warrington this evening after a huge fire broke out in Widnes.

Residents in areas including Penketh and Great Sankey have reported seeing a cloud of thick, black smoke this afternoon, Tuesday.

This is due to a large fire at an industrial unit on Tan House Lane in Widnes.

Warrington Guardian:

Five fire engines have attended the scene – including crews from Penketh, Stockton Heath, Birchwood and Lymm – as well as two aerial appliance units and a high volume pump.

The fire broke out shortly before 4pm, with Widnes residents warned to stay in doors and keep their windows and doors shut as a result.

Drivers passing the affected area are also advised to turn their ventilation systems off.

Tan House Lane is currently closed in both directions between Warrington Road and Page Lane.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says that the blaze measures around 80m by 20m, although no injuries have been reported.
