A MAN who had drunk 15 pints of cider while he was watching rugby on Saturday kicked off with his mum when he got home.

Blackburn magistrates heard Rowan Mark Holden smashed two televisions and damage numerous other household items belonging to his mother.

She and other family members left the house fearing for their own safety.

And when police arrived and entered the house they found Holden sleeping it off on the settee.

Holden, 20, of Bank Mill Street, Haslingden, pleaded guilty to damaging property belonging to Anne Holden and failing to surrender to bail.

He was given a conditional discharge for the damage, fined £233 for the failure to surrender and ordered to pay £85 costs and £32 victim surcharge.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said when police arrived Mrs Holden was outside her home and told them her son was inside and had been smashing things up.

"Mrs Holden and other members of her family had left the house because they feared for their safety," said Mrs Yates.

When officers went into the house they found a television in the front room had been smashed and there was glass all over the floor. In the rear room there was pottery and glass everywhere and a TV with a hole in the screen.

"The defendant, who was asleep on the sofa, later told police he had drunk about 15 pints of cider while watching the rugby.

Deanne McGinty, defending, said the incident stemmed from a long-standing feud between him and his mother in relation to him being placed in foster care when he was young.

"This is an issue which tends to come to the fore when he has been drinking and he accepts he lost his rag," said Miss McGinty.
