BLACKBURN Centurions Swimming Club has raised more than £900 for a Ribble Valley community for adults with a learning disability.

Its members covered more than 200 lengths in sponsored swim at Darwen Leisure Centre for Samlesbury’s Stanley Grange.

The community of 40 adults in Roach Road faced closure in 2015.

But it was saved by the setting up of a new charity the Stanley Grange Community Association (SGCA) which bought the premises.

SGCA spokeswoman Chris Wood, whose sister Pat lives at the community, said: “When all the money is in we will have raised more than £900. The swimming team managed 216 lengths.

“We also held a collection outside Blackburn Rovers.

“In previous years, Stanley Grange has had to fight to stay open.

“This swim raised money for the much-needed renovation of buildings and to provide purposeful, meaningful activities.”
