ELECTRICITY North West has announced a second major £1.2million power cable replacement project in Rawtenstall.

It follows the successful completion of a similar £1m scheme on part of Bacup Road and Lower Cloughfold.

That has replaced nine underground 11,000 volt electricity cables along 1.6 kilometres of highway since April.

Now a second £1.2m project will start next year on Bacup Road towards Waterfoot.

Michael Dawes, area manager for Electricity North West, said: “We’re delighted to bring a close to phase one of our project in Rawtenstall.

“It was complex but certainly a major success.

“We’re now completing the final reinstatements to grass verges and we aim to do this as soon as possible. I’m delighted to say that the cables are now live and providing power.

“We’re really pleased with the results of the project and we’ll be looking to commence phase two next year on Bacup Road towards Waterfoot.

“We’re committed to a better Rawtenstall, and phase two, which will be similar to phase one, will benefit thousands more customers in the area.”
