PENDLE schools have been recognised in the annual Artsmark Awards.

Ran by Arts Council England, schools across the country were rewarded for going out of their way to provide high quality artistic or creative education.

Six schools from Pendle have been recognised for their commitment to artistic and cultural education, Colne Primet Academy, Lomeshaye Junior School, Walverden Primary School all received the Silver award, with Whitefield Infant School and Nursery receiving a Gold award.

Coates Lane and Newchurch-in-Pendle Primary Schools were also recognised for having registered with the scheme.

Andrew Stephenson, Pendle's MP, said: "I am so pleased to see Pendle schools offering a high quality creative opportunities to our next generation.

"Young people's artistic talent ought to be spotted and nurtured.

"I congratulate the schools, teachers and pupils that have been recognised and would encourage other Pendle schools to consider registering for Artsmark status."
