RESIDENTS raised concerns about a misleading sign which led to near-misses at a busy junction.

A concerned resident in Whalley Old Road, Blackburn, said due to road layout changes on the junction with the A1119, only cars in the left lane were able to turn left onto the dual carriageway.

However the signpost further up Whalley Old Road suggested drivers in both lanes could turn left.

The resident said: “The new traffic island means there’s only space for one car to turn left.

“However the sign says both lanes can turn left.

“Cars have already been cutting each other up as both lanes turn and it's going to cause an accident.

“The new markings on the road had also pointed both lanes to turn left, but after I mentioned it to a road worker they changed it.”

The resident and the Lancashire Telegraph contacted Blackburn with Darwen Council and the sign has now been removed.
