A PROLIFIC shoplifter who was given a chance by magistrates responded by offending again five days later.
Blackburn magistrates heard Angela Craig was caught stealing chocolate from Wilko in the Mall.
Craig, 50, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to shoplifting.
The previous conditional discharge, imposed for three offences of shoplifting, was revoked and she was jailed for a total of 16 weeks.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was having real difficulties in her life at the moment.
"She is sleeping rough and is particularly vulnerable," said Mr Taylor.
"It appears she has been exploited by other rough sleepers and her benefits have gone. Last week and this week, out of desperation, she has stolen to try and raise money so she can buy food.
"She wants to find somewhere to live because she knows it is getting colder and she doesn't think she will be able to survive a winter on the street," said Mr Taylor.
