A 'SIGNIFICANT' cannabis farm has been discovered in Blackburn town centre.

Police officers had been called to the corner of Railway Street and Salford to a former beauty shop where around 140 cannabis plants have been found across the three floors above.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Sgt Stephen Dundon said officers were called after concerns regarding the building were raised by the community.

He said: "Officers attended and entered this premises and uncovered a significant cannabis cultivation set up over three storeys.

"There is approximately 140 plants in the premises.

"A sophisticated lighting and ventilation system was also found.

"The electricity had been bypassed and Electricity North West were called to make the electrics safe before officers could do their work.

"We are now in the process of collecting evidence.

"This seizure will inevitably have disrupted an organised crime group and we hope this demonstrates that we will respond, to issues the community raises with us."

Several police vans were seen outside the former Jinny's Nails and Beauty Salon and officers could be seen putting full black bin bags into the back of a police van.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Sgt Dundon said one man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.
