A VARIETY of mouth-watering treats will be available at the Darwen Food and Drink Festival tomorrow.

Held at the new Darwen’s market square and the market hall, a host of tasty food and activities will be on offer.

There will be a magical food folk trail, an interactive quiz, a smoothie blending bike challenge, a pie competition and a visit from ‘Miss Wonka’ and an ‘Oompa Loompa’ from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

People can learn how to become a master chocolatier at the factory, as well as take an ‘Oomptastic’ training course.

Blackburn with Darwen Cllr Phil Riley, executive member for regeneration, said: “It is good to be putting on events like this to encourage more people in to our town centre to support Darwen’s local, independent traders.”

As well as food, there will be gift stalls, bars and live entertainment.

Laura Johnson, from Crafty Vintage, who has helped organise the market’s events, said: “We would love to see as many people as possible joining in the fun on what looks set to be a fantastic event for Darwen.

“I am looking forward to seeing all the pies and seeing who will be crowned the best pie maker in Darwen.”

The events will take place between 11am and 3pm in the market hall and from 11am to 8pm on the market square.

The event has been organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council, Darwen Town Council and Crafty Vintage.

The £1.5million market square opened in May this year on the former three-day market space.

It boasts a large open area and a copper peregrine falcon, which is a nod towards the birds which are known to nest in the town’s India Mill building and Darwen’s weaving heritage.
