A MAN produced two knives instead of cash when he was asked to pay for a takeaway delivery.

Blackburn magistrates heard police called to the scene saw Gavin James Carlin brandishing the weapons and he told them; "Get away with your Taser or I will stab you.”

Carlin, 43, of White Bull Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to affray and possession of two knives. He was committed on bail to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced.

Glen Anderton, prosecuting, said the dispute over payment was going on on the doorstep and at some point Carlin had dropped his mobile phone. That was picked up by the delivery driver who said he wouldn’t give it back until he was paid.

Carlin was heard to shout “get the blades” and then emerged from the house carrying two large kitchen knives.

“After initially threatening the police officers who arrived he did eventually drop the knives and complied,” said Mr Anderton.

Mark Williams, defending, said Carlin was with two other men who he expected to pay for the food. But they had no money either.

Mr Williams added: "The argument went on for 15 minutes and the phone was picked up by one of three men who were there by then demanding money.”
