A DESCENDANT of the founder of Cowman's Butchers in Clitheroe has been name as the Brexit Party's General Election candidate for the Ribble Valley.

Greg Rodwell, 30, will take on long-serving Conservative MP Nigel Evans when the expected nationwide poll is finally called.

The arch-Brexiteer, who has represented the seat since 1992, had a majority of 13,199 in 2017.

Geologist Mr Rodwell. brought up Buckinghamshire, is the great-great-grandson of John Cowman and lived in Grindleton for five years.

He said: “Like most people across the Ribble Valley, I’m fed up that the UK has not left the EU yet. The Brexit Party, Nigel Farage and I are committed to a clean-break Brexit on October 31.

“But that's not the limit of our ambitions. By refusing to pay the £39 billion ransom demanded by the EU, cancelling HS2 and halving foreign aid we will have £200 billion to invest in regenerating Britain's regions including in Lancashire.

"I’m proud of my roots here. It's a truly beautiful place. Folk in the Ribble Valley work hard for everything they have, and they deserve more from their politicians."
