AN 87-year-old woman has died after her car crashed into the side of a fire station.

Sheila Hart, from Lostock, was taken to hospital after the collision at Horwich Community Fire Station in Chorley New Road on Friday but passed away this morning (Monday).

She had been driving away from Horwich town centre at around 3.20pm in a black Hyundai i10 before the vehicle crashed into bollards at the side of the road and then hit the station building.

Nobody else was injured in the collision and police are still investigating to find out exactly why it happened.

PC Neil Pennington, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with Mrs Hart’s family at this incredibly difficult time.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen or spoken to Mrs Hart last Friday, including local retail or business owners, to contact us.

“We are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the collision and would appeal to any witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage to please get in touch.”
