Representatives from mosques attended a celebration at a Hospice to hear about how their contribution had helped to support the local charity.

The event heard from an East Lancashire hospice patient, a family member, a doctor and trustees spoke about how the hospice helps those who need it and the difference the care can make.

Hospice supporter, Suleman Khonat then revealed how much had been collected this year in mosques during Ramadan and also in The Mall Blackburn – £14,641.12.

Everyone then enjoyed a buffet kindly sponsored by Star Tissue UK.

Suleman Khonat said: “It was very touching to see the efforts of all involved and to see so many people come and support and raise awareness of the good work of the hospice. We’ve raised an amazing amount and year on year, more and more are contributing.

"I’d like to thank all the Masjid’s for giving me the opportunity to talk about East Lancashire Hospice and the special way of caring they provide both in the hospice and at home. Also a big thank you to all the volunteers and fundraisers and all those who helped. We are going to carry on and continue to help such a worthy cause.”

Sharon Crymble, income generation and marketing lead at the hospice said: “It was fabulous to see so many representatives from the mosques local to our hospice, take the time to come and listen to how important it is to spread the word about what we do and what a difference their contribution makes.

“Suleman Khonat has worked tirelessly to spread this message and this year alone, he visited 23 mosques during Ramadan to both deliver the message and collect donations.

“I would also like to thank the volunteers who support Suleman, especially during the collections in The Mall, Blackburn.

“My thanks also to Star Tissue UK for supporting the event.”
