Police are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision on Chorley Rd, Withnell.
Officers were called to a report of a collision involving a car and a HGV at 2.10pm.
An air ambulance, three ambulances and two rapid response vehicles attended the scene.
Two women have have been taken to hospital - one of them is a pensioner.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “Chorley Road, between the M65 and Bury Lane is currently closed in both directions whilst investigation work is carried out.
“This closure is expected to continue throughout rush hour and we would advise everyone to avoid this area where possible.”
Lancashire Fire Service tweeted that two people were cut out of the vehicle.

A Lancashire Fire Service spokesman said: “Firefighters used cutting equipment, first aid kit and a long board to rescue one casualty from one of the vehicles who was taken to hospital by ambulance.
“A second casualty was also taken to hospital.”
