A VOLUNTARY effort to help an East Lancashire school develop its careers provisions has earned an awards nomination for a businessman.

Neil Conlon, of Conlon Construction, has been advising Shuttleworth College in Padiham.

And his expertise has led to him making the shortlist in the enterprise advisor category of the Career Excellence Awards 2019.

The Burnley Road high school and Pendleside Hospice, at Reedley, along with the Lancashire Careers Hub, have also made different shortlists for their careers offerings.

Amanda Melton, Lancashire Enterprise Partnership's board director for skills, said: "Hearing from business leaders like Neil, and the county’s other enterprise advisers, is proven to help young people in their careers and boost their employability.

"Through our Give an Hour campaign, we are asking more local businesspeople to volunteer a little of their time to work with local students."

The four hopefuls will discover if they have been successful during an awards ceremony at the Royal Society of Chemistry headquarters in London on September 27.
