THE auntie of two boys raising money for the East Lancashire Hospice has joined them in their fundraising efforts, dressed as a giant prosecco bottle.

Laura Cameron who is the auntie of shorts wearing Darwen boys Tom and Jack Mayoh, ran the Great North Run on Sunday in aid of the East Lancs Hospice, who cared for her sister, Louise, before she died of cancer last year.

And she wasn’t just running in any old gear, for Ms Cameron donned a giant Prosecco bottle outfit to complete the gruelling 13 mile challenge.

She said: “I’m running the Great North Run in memory of my amazing sister, Louise.

“Louise was so courageous and strong but sadly lost her battle with cancer in July last year and at the end was cared for by my chosen charity East Lancs Hospice.

“East Lancs Hospice have continued to offer support to our family and especially to Louise’s young boys Tom and Jack.

“I will be the same age when I run the Great North Run as what Louise was when she passed away, she was my best friend and we loved a good day out and she would have certainly been waiting at the finishing line with a bottle of Prosecco.

“I would like to raise as much as possible for this amazing charity so I’ve decided to do it dressed in a giant Prosecco suit.”

Gareth Mayoh, father of Tom and Jack and Ms Cameron’s brother-in-law, said the boys are really impressed that their auntie is getting involved with the fundraising.

He said: “The boys are really impressed, but not surprised that Auntie Laura is running the race, as she ran the Darwen Half Marathon earlier this year and in previous years before, as well as a Triathlon in July last year.”

“They love the Prosecco bottle outfit though and have even tried it on.

“They went up to Newcastle at the weekend to cheer Laura on along with their other Auntie Morgan and Uncle Jonathan (my sister and brother-in-law) who also ran the GNR with family friend Lucy.

“Laura had a fantastic time and everybody loved the outfit.

“BBC Radio Newcastle interviewed her at the end of the race as well.

“She said it was very hot and awkward doing the 13 miles in the outfit but loved it none the less.”
