FREE lantern making workshops will be held ahead of the fifth Light up the Valley procession in October.

Stacksteads Countryside Park Group (SCPG) organises the spectacular event and the workshops are led by artists Ruth and Felix Evans.

Project Leader Susan Hayhurst said: “We are delighted to be able to put on this fun, family event for the people of Stacksteads and beyond. The fantastic lanterns that get created each year never fail to amaze everyone and we are very grateful to Ruth and Felix for all the work they put in.

“This year’s lantern procession will be held on Saturday October 26, at 6pm with walkers leaving Globe Arts, Toll Bar, Stacksteads.”

The parade goes down the side of the Rose ‘n’ Bowl, around Stacksteads Recreation Ground and then follows the path through the Riverside Park, culminating in The Glade where free food and entertainment is provided.

Free workshops to make lanterns will be held on Saturdays September 29, October 5, 12 and 19 at Globe Arts from 10.30am to 4pm.

Communications Officer Jackie Oakes said: “We are very grateful to the Mayor of Rossendale’s Charity Fund, Tesco Bags of Help, Rossendale Community Fund and Rossendale Council for supporting the workshops and parade this year along with SCPG.”

All lantern making materials are provided free and the workshops are suitable for families.
