EMERGENCY services - including an air ambulance - were scrambled to a residential road this morning following a serious incident.

Firefighters, paramedics and police officers were called to St James' Road in Blackburn just after 11.30am following reports of a crash between two cars.

A police cordon was erected from Conway Avenue up to Northfield Road as emergency services dealt with the incident.

The cordon was lifted and traffic flow returned to normal at around 3pm.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing an air ambulance land close to where the incident had taken place.

Aleeyma Hamid, who had been out in the road at the time, said: "I didn't see what happened as where the accident had happened was out of my field of vision, but I heard this really loud bang and then the sound of people panicking.

"I walked up the road and could see the two red cars on opposite sides of the roads. It was terryfying. People started to panic and call ambulances.

"I left the area quickly afterwards so that the police and paramedics could get on with their work - I didn't want to see what was going on as it wasn't nice."

Lancashire Telegraph:

A spokesman from the fire and rescue service said: "Crews from Hyndburn and Blackburn attended the incident, where one person was trapped inside a car.

"Firefighters worked alongside paramedics to free the casualty who was then taken to hospital.

"They left the scene just after one o'clock."
