A WOMAN was found injured with a broken ankle on a pavement following a dramatic late night police chase.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident which took place at 4am in Church.

Officers had been following a BMW 320 which they believed was stolen along Buckingham Grove when they found the woman lying on the ground.

Police say that it is not clear whether she was struck by the BMW or sustained her injuries after moving out of the path of the oncoming vehicle.

The BMW came to a stop and police arrested a boy, 15, and a woman, 18, from Accrington. But another man, who ran off from the scene, is still being pursued by police.

The pair who were arrested have since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Insp Craig Kelshaw from Hyndburn Police said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation and are looking at whether the car has hit this woman or whether she has become hurt after moving out of its way.

“We are on with a number of lines of enquiry to find the person who ran off. I would urge him to do the right thing and hand himself in as it’s only a matter of time before we find him.”
