'FLIPPING good' was the verdict of people who visited the gas showroom on Lord Street, Blackburn in February 1979.

The Gas Board laid on a special pancake contest and visitors to the showroom were only too glad to help with clearing up the pancakes with a variety of fillings.

The morning was devoted to the savouries with fillings such as cooked fish, cheese and spinach, kidney and prawns.

Roy Williams, public relations officer for North West Gas said it was the first time they held the contest and there was good response.

"We had wondered whether to try for a record sized pile of pancakes but we could not find out if there was a record to beat so we decided to get anyone who came into the showroom to sample them."

Sue Nowell, Liz Greaves and Linda Marr of North West Gas are pictured giving the pancake tossing a try.
