A REDUNDANT water treatment works building in an idyllic Yorkshire Dales setting, and with the potential for redevelopment, has been put up for auction with a guide price of just £5,000.

The former Marsett water treatment works, near Hawes, will be auctioned along with over 100 other properties and plots of land at Pugh’s September auctions. A four-acre area of grassland with a derelict barn, which adjoins the water treatment works, is also due to go under the hammer at the auction in Leeds on September 5, with a guide price of £14,000.

Paul Thompson, managing director of Pugh auction house, said: “The water treatment works is in a unique Dales location with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside. With the opportunity to purchase another four acres of land right next to the property, there is real potential for redevelopment if the relevant planning consents were gained.”
