THE Grange has seen another top performance from its Year 11 students, as they picked up GCSE results on Thursday morning.

A huge 44 per cent of all grades achieved by students were at grade 8 or 9 – equivalent to an A* under the new system.

Three Grange students, out of only 837 in the country, achieved seven or more grade 9s.

Headteacher Debbie Leonard said: “This is only the second set of results under the newly reformed GCSEs and I have been delighted with the way this year group have navigated the uncertainties and challenges.

"This is a strong set of results and I am pleased that the efforts of our students have yielded dividends.

Northwich Guardian:

"Yet behind the statistics there are huge array of individual success stories, supported by our dedicated staff.

"Many students have showcased true Grange spirit to achieve their best today and we are very proud of them."

Unphased by a busy exam season amid the changing face of GCSEs, the 2019 leavers picked up an impressive set of results.

Justin Chan, who has balanced his studies with musical endeavours in piano and singing, said he exceeded his expectations.

Northwich Guardian:

Justin said: "I thought I did really well – some of the subjects I was hoping for maybe a 6 or 7 but did better. I was really surprised by some of them.

"It was just a complete blur around exams but the school helped me prepare so it went well.

"I'll be taking maths, further maths, physics and chemistry next year. Music for me started as a hobby and still is just something I enjoy."

Holly McGregor-Ogden – who got through eight exams in a single week earlier in the summer – said the nerves had arisen as results day approached.

Northwich Guardian:

She said: "It was quite stressful at the time but the exams were better than I thought they’d be. It really helped doing mocks because I knew the format and was a lot more relaxed than I thought it would be.

"I have been doing a lot to distract myself this summer, but as I was coming into school today I was really nervous."

Holly will take physics, maths and drama with a view to a career in engineering.

Meanwhile, it seems maths runs in the family for Kate Tranter who picked up 8s and 9s across the board – as well as an A* in further maths.

Northwich Guardian:

She said: "I want to go into maths, or possibly chemistry. Both my parents are mathematicians and I feel like they can help me with that.

"I just enjoy maths – it’s a bit weird and maybe I’m a bit of a geek but I just enjoy it.

"Most of the exams were fine but I struggled in some with the timings."
