THE speed cameras in Warrington with the highest number of activations so far this year have been revealed.
Following a Freedom of Information Act submitted to Cheshire Police by the Warrington Guardian, figures show that the speed camera on the A49 Winwick Road has proven most costly to motorists in the town.
The camera in question, which sits on the junction of Owen Street heading northbound towards Winwick, was activated 2,852 times in the first six months of 2019.
This is over double the number of caught by Warrington’s second most triggered camera, which monitors the A57 Liverpool Road heading towards the town centre.
That camera, which stands opposite The Woodlands pub in Great Sankey, was activated 1,180 times between the start of January and the end of June.
Warrington’s least activated camera in 2019 can be found in Appleton on the A49 London Road heading towards the town centre, which only caught 65 speeding motorists.
Throughout the whole of 2018, the Winwick Road speed camera flashed 5,911 motorists who were caught breaking the 30mph speed limit
The camera on Liverpool Road is on track to exceed the total activations from last year, when it was activated 1,601 times.
