THE Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Cllr Jim Shorrock has put himself in the picture to boost a 60-year-old resident's charity challenge.

Ian Barker has embarked on 60 challenges marking his big birthday to raise £600 for 'Fight Like a Kid'.

The charity, set up by the relatives of schoolboy neuroblastoma survivor Theo Power, raises money to support child cancer sufferers and their families.

Mr Barker's challenges range from swimming with sharks to getting a selfie with Cllr Shorrock. He was this week invited up to the Mayor’s parlour to meet the photo challenge.

Cllr Jim Shorrock said: "I think it’s fantastic that Ian has undertaken this huge challenge for his 60th year. It was great to meet him and I wish him the best of luck in all that is to come. Staying active and positive in later life is the key to happiness!"

Mr Barker said: "Meeting Mr Mayor was superb. I never expected he would take time out from his busy schedule. To also be invited into the mayoral chambers was also a privilege."
