RAIN threatened to stop play but hardy Cadstockers rocked up for the annual free music festival in Victoria Park, Cadoxton, Barry.

Up to 4,000 people attended the green flag park event on Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18.

The event was organised by Vale parks parks and open spaces officer, Jonathan Greatrex.

Mr Greatrex said: "Despite the forecasts of monsoon winds, deluges of rain, plague of frogs, and pretty much anything in between, Cadstock managed to celebrate its 10th birthday in a mighty fine way.

"Rainy showers and grey skies parted just at the right times on Saturday and Sunday to give us the party in the park we all wanted to happen.

"Even the very occasional blustery showers and winds were no match for JPL’s great sound system and the Cadstockers wobbly gazebos and even wobblier rain wear!

Ten great bands, plus one great choir, gave us another weekend of pop and rock classics.

"From the time The Scoundrels kicked it all off on Saturday afternoon right through until 12 Bore closed the show with a smoke-filled glam rock finale on Sunday evening.

"Then guess what, right on the last song the rain returned, we finished the gig, said our goodbyes until the next time.

The bands rocking the park included Brother Steve, 12 Bore, Stonehouse, Grooveline, The Little Giants, Outback, The Scoundrels, The Leg Warmers, New Trix, Jack Raymond Garrett and the Tenovus ‘Sing with Us’ Choir.

Mr Greatrex thanked The JPL Sound Cadstock team, Bro Radio, Friends of Victoria Park, Martin and Rachel Harries and friends for Cadstock/Woodstock event ideas, PR, designs and support. Barry Round Table, St Johns Ambulance (Barry Division), South Wales Police, Vibe Creative, T-shirt Printing 4u, Barry, Martin Gibson and Gareth Lewis, Bounceplay Inflatables, C&J Super Ice Creams, James Danter and Sons

PTL Toilets, ReFill Barry, Barry Arts, Cadoxton Youth Action, and Operation Goldfish.

He added: "And finally a massive thanks to the Vale of Glamorgan Council parks department and the council themselves who let us do it all in this lovely park and have supported us all the way for the last 10 years both financially and in kind.

"Special thanks to the team on the day - Mike Parsons, Nick Collins and Dave Rendell and to all the team who helped us get the show on the road again.

"Eryl and Bron for all the admin, Tim, Dave, Tom and Mike E for getting the gear on site."
