ET and Apollo 13 are being screened at the Parr Hall as part of a space age celebration to welcome 'Museum of the Moon' to Warrington.

UK artist Luke Jerram’s sculpture of the Moon, which has been exhibited all over the world, will be at the Cultural Quarter venue from October 3 to 15 as the centrepiece of this year's Contemporary Arts Festival and to mark 50 years since Neil Armstrong made a giant leap for mankind.

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the Moon features detailed NASA imagery with each centimetre lit to perfectly represent the moon’s surface.

The installation will be suspended from the Parr Hall’s ceiling and will also feature sound effects created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones.

A programme of events taking place under the Moon have been planned including screenings of ET and Apollo 13, both on Sunday, October 13.

There will also be two silent discos in the shadow of the Moon on Saturday, October 5, featuring two DJs and a publicly-curated playlist that music lovers can add to on social media.

The first will be a family-friendly party starting at 4pm which will be followed by the 'Full Moon Party' where revellers can dance into the early hours.

An out of this world gala dinner is even rocketing into town on Thursday, October 3, featuring a talk by artist Luke Jerram about the Museum of the Moon.

The formal do will see guests enjoy a five-course meal inspired by the Moon by Cheshire Dining Experience. There will also be live music from The Vintage Murphys and DJ Holly Jay.

Then for a complete change of pace, there will even be an 'art battle' under the Moon on Saturday, October 12.

Ten artists will have just 30 minutes to create their masterpieces, while the audience watches and votes. Add live entertainment and a full bar and you’ve got a Saturday night like no other.
